AFC Bournemouth’s Goal of the Month
by Sam Davis
On Thursday morning I was pleased to be invited to the Vitality Stadium – the home of AFC Bournemouth, to hand over the Goal of the Month Award to Cherries player Charlie Daniels. The defender scored an unbelievable left-footed strike against Manchester City in a recent Premier League game, and despite the loss on the day, it was great to see him be commended – and personally, I was delighted be able to award him the trophy for Carling’s monthly vote.
As many people who know me can testify, my support for the Cherries has been long-lived. Indeed, my first ever website, entitled “Boscombe on the Web”, was all about my favourite team – and attracted tens of thousands of supporters every month – this was the basis of my whole career in making websites.
More recently, I was heavily involved in creating, producing and presenting the “Back of the Net” AFC Bournemouth Podcast, which attracted over 2,000 listeners a week – a show which took a regular look at events involving the Cherries. This included a number of behind the scenes features where I worked closely with the club, including interviewing Cherries legends Steve Fletcher, star striker Steve Jones and Ted “nine goals” MacDougall – amongst others.
He had also been awarded with a new long-term deal at the club, therefore the Goal of the Month award must have been the icing on the cake.
It was a pleasure to be involved in interviewing Charlie on behalf of Carling before handing over the Goal of the Month trophy on the pitch. Together with the fact it was his birthday, he had also been awarded with a new long-term deal at the club, therefore the Goal of the Month award must have been the icing on the cake for him!
In only my second year of being self-employed, I’d like to think that I can have a meteoric rise in the same way that AFC Bournemouth have had – with my new business. Thank you to everyone at Carling, AFC Bournemouth, and fellow Cherries fan Alex Deutsch – for the opportunity.
